I truly like don't understand how people get so confused by this like. You can't honestly believe that supporting mentally ill people's right to exist is the same thing as being in a personal relationship with an individual and "supporting" that individual (I mean y'all have a twisted definition of support too because like. Girl boundaries are support. Having good boundaries? Very important part of supporting someone. Undermining your own boundaries to facilitate another person's destructive behaviour? Not support, that's unhealthy, Do Not Do That) just because you were abused by someone with a mental health issue doesn't mean we need to spread misinformation about the disorder and act as though it's dangerous to give those people rights, because it isn't. Just straight up it is not dangerous to give anyone basic human rights, NPD is a highly treatable disorder, people with NPD have understandable emotions and motivations and being able to empathise with them and understand why they acted the way they did does not in any way justify their actions! Because your feelings are not worth less than theirs! There's a youtube channel called HealNPD that has a lot of very good, actually accurate and non-stigmatising information about NPD, *and* also touches on the damaging and abusive behaviour that can occur with NPD, *and* validates and supports people with trauma caused by a person with NPD. It's entirely possible to have both. Understanding your abuser and why the abuse occurred (specifically understanding why it was not your fault, and why it was not in your control) are important parts of healing. Furthering the stigma against NPD just hurts you more because it makes what happened to you harder to understand, and I've seen far too much stigmatising content that just uses the stigma to encourage people's paranoia and trauma responses (not healthy!!)
